Retro handheld systems are great! They have some amazing games, and most of them even fit in your pocket. The screen is the most important part, and if that breaks, the entire system can become useless.
Replacing the screen is a great option to keep these older systems alive, but these days finding a working original screen is extremely hard. They can cost more than they’re worth, or alternatively you can pull one from another console and just hope that one is working.
Thankfully, modders have made it possible to install new screens into most retro systems. Not only can these replacement screens fix your system, but they can also upgrade it with some nice benefits such as: a smoother picture, better contrast, no blur, and one of my favorites, a backlight. You can finally play your old console in the car at night (as long as you’re not the one driving)!
There’s a bit more work to installing these than just popping in a new screen. Most of these screens don’t fit the original case, so the case will need to be modified or even replaced to fit the new screen. They also require soldering some extra components, since these older systems were never meant to run these upgraded screens.
If you’re looking to repair an old handheld, or even just give one of your favorite systems an upgrade, feel free to contact us! We’ll be happy to install a new screen into your retro portable device.
