Take a look behind the curtain at our pinball restoration process. After years of use, components begin to fail and dirt/debris clog the flow of current among the maze of switches and plates. At VideoGameRepairs, we’ve seen it all and we’re here to show you just how dramatic the transformation can be, from grimy and neglected to clean, tuned, and playing like new.
Repairing a seized ball shooter
Often overlooked on many machines is the ball shooter. Once these springs start to go, they lack the power required to push the ball into the playfield. Here you can see the difference with a new barrel, bezel and tensions springs. We also included a new sleeve and rubber tip.
When things age out
Next up is an example of what we can do when the older pinballs internals have aged out. On the left is a faulty “jones” connector that no longer makes the connection to adjust a 3 ball game from a 5 ball game. This unit was converted to a more modern pin and plug system. We use only trifurcon connectors to ensure a solid connection.
Damaged Playfield Repairs
Here we have playfield inserts that are severely cracking both due to age as well as heat stress from the incandescent bulbs under the playfield. Here we were able to not only just replace both the inserts and the star roll-overs, but also add custom color inserts to make this machine stand out amongst its peers.
Stepper Unit rebuilt
We also specialise in the restoration and refurbishment of internal components that have degraded over time. Pictured here are mechanical stepper units that are designed to manage multiple switches simultaneously. After enduring tens of thousands of rotations over their lifespan, these units experience considerable wear and oxidization. Through careful cleaning and reconditioning, we are able to return them to peak condition, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle many thousands more rotations with reliability and precision.
